What is Barnabas House?
Barnabas House, located at 2423 S. Tyler Street in
Little
Rock, is a social work and counseling center. It is a mission of Oak Forest United Methodist Church and other
Little
Rock churches and schools.

Who benefits from Barnabas House?
Barnabas House serves the working poor who do not have medical or health insurance. It is located in the Oak Forest neighborhood near the University of Arkansas at
Little
Rock. Clients are unable to afford counseling or social work, and often work in entry level and minimum wage jobs such as waiters, landscape workers, retail stockers, sales associates and maintenance personnel.

What services are offered?
Medical and Social Workers advocate for the uninsured. Services have included arranging surgeries and life saving treatments. Case Management workers provide a system to help the uninsured navigate the maze of government and social services ranging from federal programs to those offered by local organizations. The needs of our clients include housing, job placement, educational opportunities, disability determination and nutritional assistance among many others. About 40 percent of the clients are non-English speaking which means they can become discouraged and give up on the system without the help of an advocate.

Barnabas House works to meet the social work and counseling needs of patients from 72204 and 72209, the two poorest zip codes in Pulaski County.
